A recent The Block report states that a mandate was formally issued by a U.S. appeals court on Wednesday, solidifying the forfeiture of 69,370 Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies linked to the now-defunct Silk Road dark web market. Although the initial judgment was rendered in August, its implementation was confirmed through a recent filing in the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The Wednesday filing identifies Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht as a defendant, alongside two claimants and the U.S. government as the plaintiff.
The U.S. government had gained control of the cryptocurrency earlier when it was surrendered by an entity known as "Individual X," who had infiltrated Silk Road and assumed control of its assets, as per the original complaint.
This development raises interest in the market, as observers closely monitor the movements of these funds. Speculation abounds regarding the potential impact that a large-scale sale by the U.S. government could have on the price of Bitcoin.
