According to a recent Cointelegraph report, one of President Joe Biden’s senior economic advisers, who also previously served on Ripple Labs’ board, is set to transition from the White House to Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign.
President Biden announced on Aug. 5 that Gene Sperling would be leaving his administration, where he has been a senior adviser since 2021. Reports suggest that Sperling will join Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, with the election just three months away, and the leading candidates being Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Sperling joined Ripple’s board in 2015 after serving as an economic adviser to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Although he started working in the Biden administration in 2021, Ripple’s current board of directors does not include him.
Following President Biden's announcement on July 21 that he would not seek reelection, several White House personnel, including Sperling, are shifting to support Harris’ campaign. David Plouffe, a former member of Binance’s global advisory board, and Anita Dunn, who has interacted with crypto industry representatives, are also reportedly joining efforts to support Harris.
The Harris campaign is considering a public position on cryptocurrency, though it is unclear if advisers like Sperling will have roles related to crypto or blockchain. Campaign officials are expected to attend a roundtable this week with crypto firm representatives and US lawmakers.
