Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, who has for years falsely claimed to be the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, is facing a potential criminal investigation in the United Kingdom. Reuters reported that a London judge has referred Wright to prosecutors for possible perjury and forgery charges after a damning verdict exposed a pattern of extensive lies and fabricated evidence.

Wright's audacious assertion that he was the mastermind behind Bitcoin led to a global legal campaign, including high-profile court battles in the United States and the United Kingdom. However, a recent trial in London decisively dismantled Wright's claims, with the judge labeling his actions as "a most serious abuse" of the legal system.

The Crypto Open Patent Alliance, a group representing cryptocurrency industry interests including Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey's payment firm Block, initiated legal action against Wright to prevent him from pursuing lawsuits against Bitcoin developers. The evidence presented during the trial was deemed "overwhelming" in proving Wright's deception, with the judge specifically citing "wholescale perjury and forgery of documents."

As a result of these findings, the judge has referred the case to the Crown Prosecution Service, requesting a thorough investigation into whether criminal charges should be brought against Wright. The possibility of a warrant for his arrest and potential extradition proceedings has also been raised, given his apparent departure from the United Kingdom.

Wright has vehemently denied the allegations and has indicated his intention to appeal the court's decision. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
