In a landmark development for the European Bitcoin community, the Swiss Bitcoin-centric application Relai has secured regulatory approval under the newly established Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. This authorization by France's Financial Markets Authority (AMF) positions Relai at the forefront of Bitcoin-only companies achieving regulatory compliance within the European Union.

Relai, which is headquartered in Zurich, announced this achievement as a pivotal moment for its operations and the broader adoption of Bitcoin across Europe. The MiCA framework, introduced earlier this year, aims to harmonize the regulatory landscape for digital asset companies within EU member states, enhancing investor protection while minimizing regulatory discrepancies. As major cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance and Coinbase continue to navigate the complexities of MiCA's licensing requirements, Relai's early success under this framework underscores its strategic advantage.

Julian Liniger, the co-founder and CEO of Relai, expressed enthusiasm about the license, stating, "Securing this MiCA license is a substantial step forward for our company and Bitcoin’s presence in Europe. We are thrilled to initially expand into France and subsequently target broader European markets."

Established in 2020, Relai has sought to establish itself as a premier gateway for European retail investors interested in Bitcoin. Despite regulatory challenges in the digital asset sector, Relai has achieved significant milestones, including closing a Series A funding round and surpassing 500,000 app downloads. With the MiCA license, Relai can now "passport" its services across the European Union, allowing it to operate seamlessly in all 27 member countries following completion of notification procedures.

Looking forward, Relai plans to introduce an array of new features tailored to enhance user experience. These include the implementation of Instant SEPA payments, increased trading limits, price transparency, and strengthened security protocols. Furthermore, the company is committed to enhancing Bitcoin education and community engagement by deploying localized learning resources and sponsoring Bitcoin-related events throughout Europe.

Adem Bilican, co-founder and president of Relai EU, emphasized the company's vision, "Our mission is to make Bitcoin accessible to as many individuals as possible, by ensuring our platform is simple, secure, and compliant with regulations."

To bolster its strategic growth and regulatory adherence, Relai has also established an advisory board comprising industry experts such as Jean Guillaume, Daniel Astraud, and Herve de Kerdrel. This board will guide the company in navigating regulatory landscapes and achieving its expansion goals. With marketing initiatives and app updates planned for 2026, Relai is set to leverage its MiCA approval to further its footprint across Europe.

In a related development, Blockchain.com also announced its receipt of a MiCA license, granted by the Maltese Financial Services Authority (MFSA), highlighting the growing trend of compliance under the MiCA framework among crypto firms.
