Reuters reported that according to Montenegrin Justice Minister Marko Kovac, South Korea and the United States are both seeking the extradition of Do Kwon, an international fugitive accused of a multibillion-dollar fraud, as well as another suspect who was arrested in Montenegro recently.

Do Kwon is a former CEO of Terraform Labs, the company responsible for the stablecoin TerraUSD, which collapsed in May 2022, causing turbulence in the world of cryptocurrency.

Kovac confirmed at a news conference in Podgorica that the extradition of Do Kwon and the other suspect has been requested by both South Korea and the United States.

Furthermore, Reuters reports that according to Marko Kovac, the Justice Minister of Montenegro, Do Kwon and the second suspect, Hon Chang Joon, were detained at Podgorica airport on March 23 while attempting to board a flight to Dubai. They were charged by Montenegrin police with forging official documents after the police discovered doctored Costa Rican passports, a separate set of Belgian passports, laptops, and other devices in their luggage.

Kovac stated that South Korea and the United States have requested the extradition of the suspects, along with the handover of their computers. However, Kovac clarified that the extradition would only take place after a trial and any sentence served in Montenegro for the charge of document forgery. The court in Podgorica has ordered the suspects to be placed in 30-day pre-trial detention.
