A recent Cointelegraph report states that former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO, Ryan Salame, who pleaded guilty to two felony counts, is set to face sentencing in a New York courtroom on May 1. The charges are linked to his involvement in the fraud case at the now-defunct FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Salame's guilty plea in September 2023 encompassed one count of making unlawful political contributions and one count of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money-transmitting business.

The charges against Salame and other FTX executives, including former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, involved allegations of making $10 million in political contributions, labeled as loans without the intent to repay. The charges also highlighted Salame's contributions to his then-girlfriend's congressional campaign, a violation of U.S. law. While Salame could potentially face imprisonment, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has reportedly suggested probation as an alternative to incarceration.

Salame's plea agreement reportedly involves around $6 million in penalties to the U.S. government, $5 million reimbursed to FTX debtors, and the surrender of two properties in Massachusetts and a Porsche. As of the latest update, Salame remains free on a $1 million bond until his scheduled sentencing.
