The crypto industry is increasingly focusing on sustainability, with projects like Ethereum switching to more energy-efficient consensus mechanisms and companies like Crypto.com committing to carbon neutral operations.
Today, the crypto exchange released a new announcement.
Crypto.com has recently signed an eight-year agreement with Climeworks, a Swiss company known for its carbon capture technology, to neutralize its direct emissions. Other major firms such as Microsoft, Stripe, and Shopify have also partnered with Climeworks to offset their carbon emissions.
Eric Anziani, President and Chief Operating Officer at Crypto.com, stated that the company is committed to addressing the climate challenge and continuously working towards it. Crypto.com aims to remove its direct carbon emissions and contribute to the development of carbon removal technologies for the industry as a whole!
The company first announced its climate commitment in 2021 and has been engaging with carbon removal providers, policymakers, and commercial partners to reduce its residual emissions.
The CEO of Crypto.com, Kris Marszalek, emphasized the importance of a collaborative and multi-sector approach and acknowledged that the company is still in the early stages of its sustainability journey.
He emphasized the importance of investing in innovative technologies that will have a positive impact on climate change across the ecosystem.
Crypto.com is not the only company in the crypto industry working towards sustainability. In Q4 of last year, Ripple partnered with Thallo, a carbon credit marketplace based on the XRP Ledger, to take climate action.
Additionally, Ripple committed $100 million to scale and strengthen global carbon markets, using blockchain and crypto to address quality and transparency. In September 2022, Ripple also signed the Climate Pledge, joining over 375 other businesses in prioritizing the planet.
