According to a report by The Block, Coinbase Wallet revealed today its collaboration with web3 security startup Blockaid, which began five months ago. This partnership has resulted in over $75 million saved from potential theft, marking a significant achievement in bolstering security within the crypto space.
During the past five months, Blockaid has intercepted nearly 800,000 connections to malicious decentralized applications, analyzing a vast amount of transactions and dApp connections totaling 114 million. This meticulous scrutiny has been instrumental in enhancing on-chain security, particularly for Ethereum Mainnet and other EVM chains such as Base, Optimism, and Polygon.
Chintan Turakhia, senior director of engineering at Coinbase, highlighted the importance of integrating Blockaid's solutions, emphasizing that it not only strengthens security measures but also enhances user experience for Coinbase Wallet users. He stressed the critical role of prioritizing security to facilitate broader blockchain adoption and ensure user confidence.
Blockaid's co-founder and CTO Raz Niv provided additional insights, mentioning that the $75 million figure represents the lower end of savings achieved. Notably, Blockaid's solutions have also benefited other platforms like MetaMask, OpenSea, Zerion Wallet, and Rainbow Wallet, with MetaMask alone having saved "hundreds of millions of dollars."
Blockaid, which emerged from stealth mode last October with a $33 million funding round, offers comprehensive security tools to combat crypto fraud, phishing, and hacks. Leveraging three Blockaid APIs, Coinbase Wallet enhances security measures for users engaging with dApps and web3 protocols.
