Cointelegraph reported that Coinbase is gearing up to submit a request today, August 4th, seeking the dismissal of the lawsuit brought forth by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Chief Legal Officer of the cryptocurrency exchange expressed a high level of confidence in prevailing in the case.

The Chief Legal Officer, Paul Grewal, conveyed this information during a press conference on August 3rd, where he discussed the quarterly report for Q2 2023. Grewal maintained an optimistic outlook, suggesting that Coinbase is poised to emerge victorious in the legal dispute against the regulatory body.

Addressing the SEC legal battle, Grewal made his stance clear, stating, "Allow me to be unequivocal about the lawsuit. We hold the belief that not only can we win, but we anticipate a favorable outcome."

Coinbase is responding to the SEC's lawsuit from June 6th, which accused them of selling unauthorized securities and operating as an unregistered securities exchange. Coinbase's Chief Legal Officer, Grewal, announced that they will file a motion on August 4th to dismiss the lawsuit, aiming to emphasize the absence of listed securities on their platform, the SEC's lack of authority over crypto exchanges, and their failure to advise on registration. However, Grewal anticipates this motion won't be reviewed before late October.

Their goal is not just legal victory, but also to establish clear regulations for collaboration with the SEC and the US government. Grewal highlighted the contradictions between SEC Chairman Gensler and CFTC Chairman Behnam about the legal status of Ethereum. Many regulations in this area were created before the internet, Grewal noted. Despite the lawsuit's outcome, their main aim is clarity.
